Jill Chen, flute
Jill Chen graduated in 2004 from the Univesity of Auckland with First Class Honours in a Masters of Music in Performance Flute under Professor Uwe Grodd [Ger/NZl.During the same year she was Winner of the Open Competition at the New Zealand National Flute Convention and attended the Stratford-Upon-Avon International Flute Festival in the UK, where she performed for the Young Artists' Concert Platform with well known British guest artists. She was also one of the top three finalists at the International Albert Cooper Competition held during the festival.Ji|| has performed in Masterclasses for Robert Aitken [Can/Ger], Marya Martin [NZ/USA], Paul Edmund-Davies (UK] and Margaret Crawford [Aust].While studying Jill has performed with the Manukau Symphony Orchestra, Bach Music Auckland and University Orchestra. Auckland Symphony Orchestra and the Auckland Youth Orchestra.
Jill is also a pianist and holds the LTCL, ATCL and AMusTCL diplomas. She has had experience in teaching flute, piano and accompanying for over 10 years. ln 2002 Jill completed a Graduate Diploma inTeaching and in January 2008 she joined the Music Faculty at Jerudong International school, teaching Middle and Upper School Music and flute and piano.
Renée Joubert, piano
Renée Joubert grew up in South Africa. She studied music at the National School of the Arts in Johannesburg and learnt the Bach Finger Technique under the late Dr. Lorraine Joubert (not a relative). After immigrating to New Zealand she continued her studies under Margaret Crawshaw, Tamas Vesmas and Katherine Austin. She was the first recipient of the BNZ Lili Kraus Scholarship. Her solo career includes performing with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, but even as an undergraduate chamber music and piano accompaniment took centre stage.After obtaining a degree In piano performance and composition at the University of Waikato she became the official accompanist for the University's music department and also worked with a range of amateur and professional instrumentalists and vocalists, including Opera Waikato. Since January 2010 she has been teaching English with CfBT Education Services, Brunei.
Felicity Corrie, cello
Felicity Corrie studied Music at the University of Cambridge where she also completed her MPhil in Musicology. She has played cello since she was seven and has received chamber music coaching from several professional chamber ensembles including the Dante and Endellion String Quartets. In addition to her cello playing Felicity has sung professionally in London church choirs and has extensive training in the Anglican choral tradition.Felicity is currently a teacher of ceIlo, singing and classroom music at Jerudong International School.
Jamie Sales, violin
Jamie Sales has over 20 years teaching experience and for the past six years he has directed string ensembles and taught violin, viola and celIo at JIS. Previous to this he was a professional musician on cruise ship tours travelling around North America, Costa Rica, Mexico, Canada, AIaska and the Caribbean.
Melissa Robbins, viola
Melissa Robbins studied Music at the University of Michigan School of Music. She is trained in the Suzuki method and integrates Suzuki philosophy into her teaching. She has played violin in orchestras in the U.S. and studied traditional Indonesian string instruments. Melissa currently teaches violin and viola at Jerudong International School and has recently begun a Suzuki Method violin programme at the school.
