Background
Richard Hand was an open scholar at the Royal Academy of Music where he won the Julian
Bream Prize, the string players prize and the Academy's highest award: the Recital Diploma.
He has performed as a concerto soloist frequently, including at the South Bank and St. Martin-in-the Fields in London, and in Cape Town.
He is much in demand as an ensemble player, playing at the BBC Proms, an extensive interna-
tional tour with Tetra and in the Alibas flute and guitar duo who have played in France, Spain,
South Africa and Kenya.
lleana Ruhemann was appointed principal flute of the BBC Concert Orchestra in 1989. She
has played guest principal with many other orchestras including the BBC Symphony,
London Symphony, Royal Opera House, London Philharmonic, Royal
Philharmonic and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
lleana frequently gives solo recitals for BBC Radio 2 and 3 and is a member of Jeux and Capri
corn, with whom she has toured extensively and recorded for Hyperion. In 1997 she recorded
Peter Maxwell Davies's Flute Concerto for BBC Radio 3. Ileana was invited to give some of the
first recitals in Bosnia, following the war, as a soloist with the London Mozart Players.
