Sohyun Ahn has performed in the United States. Italy. Germany, United Kingdom, Portugal, Iceland, Japan, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Korea. She was named 'Best Performer of Year {2002}' by Eumak-Chunchu, Korea's leading music critic magazine.
She was born in Korea and educated inter-nationally. After her Master's Degree with distinction at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, she went to the US where she received her Professional Studies Degree from the Manhattan School of Music.
Sohyun won both the Govornors' Recital Prize and the Bach Prize while at the RSAMD and the Korean Symphony Concerto Competition. Her scholarships include the Japan Rotary Foundation Scholarship and the RSAMD Endowment Trust International Scholarship, Along with Sohyuh's busy schedule of solo engagements, she performs regularly with opera companies such as the Little Opera Company of New Jersey and the New Jersey Concert Opera.
Sohyun has been invited back for recitals in Southeast Asia following successful recitals and masterclasses in the region two years ago. On this tour she will be with her husband, pianist, David Henry.
David Henry is a highly acclaimed British pianist. His recitals have won audiences throughout the UK and Europe. He has received particular recognition for his interpretations of Beethoven and Brahms, while also being noted for presenting lesser-known works from the repertoire.
As a soloist, his concertos include those by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky and Mozart, and as orchestral pianist for the demanding Stravinsky Symphony in Three Movements.
He won a scholarship to do his Masters Degree at the Manhattan School of Music following a First-Class (Honours) Degree at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama in Glasgow. While at the RSAMD, he won almost all the solo performance competitions, which included the Bach Prize, the Governors Recital Prize, the Concerto Prize,and the Beethoven Competition.
Awards have included the Sir James Caird Travelling Scholarship and the James Milne Scholarship. A particular honour was to be awarded a Wingate Scholarship, which enabled him to study under the legendary Eugene lstomin in New York City.
Their recital for BMS will include works for solo piano and for piano duet by Beethoven, Debussy, Brahms and Liszt.
