Jason Carter - Guitar
Following a highly successful tour of Borneo in 2003, the Brunei Music Society is delighted to welcome Jason Carter back to perform again in Brunei Darussalam. It will be a recital not to be missed. 'To define Jason’s music is difficult. It has been called fusion. which seems to be a term tagged onto cookery, interior design and dance these days when often it covers up a mess. Not so with Carter.  Yes, it is a mélange of flamenco, jazz and classical guitar but he injects it with vitality and stamps his own personality onto it.‘ Scene Magazine Dubai 'Carter is a cross-cultural triumph‘ HM1/Music Magazine (UK) Starting at the age of nine. Jason was predominantly self-taught but attended master classes with guitarist John Williams at the Royal Academy of Music. He performs internationally; mainly as a solo guitarist, but also collaborates with artists from Ireland, China, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Egypt, Lapland and Africa. He has always maintained strong links with the Middle East where he co-founded an International Guitar Festival. He has performed with such artists as Nigel Kennedy, Gordon Giltrap and Babik Reinhardt (son of the great Django Reinhardt). He is as comfortable performing to audiences of ID people as he is to 5000. As one journalist put it, “He claims to be a solo guitarist, but he 'plays‘ with every single member of the audience ..... we have been with him the whole way on this incredible journey this evening.” Jason has produced a wide range of CDs for Sony; EMI and ARC Music. These range from original solo guitar compositions. to Indian Arabic Fusion, Classical Chamber Music, Jazz arrangements and Techno Dance Music with DJs.

The title of his programme for BMS ‘From Bach to Flamenco and Back’ suggests that the audience will be in for a musical journey through many styles and forms including some original works by Jason himself.
